Vinyl Siding Mounting System
The Vinyl Siding Mounting System was developed in 2019 as a way to attach props to vinyl siding without drilling holes into the siding itself. The design uses off-the-shelf vinyl siding hooks that fit into our custom base plates, providing a more secure mounting solution.
For most props, we recommend using four mounts, with two positioned vertically and two horizontally. These mounts are designed to fit 1/2″ EMT conduit and work in combination with our EMT prop mounts.
Although the EMT conduit snaps into place and holds securely on its own, we recommend physically securing the conduit to the mount. There are two options:
- Bolt attachment (preferred method): An integrated pocket behind the conduit receptacle accommodates a 1/4″ nut, allowing the EMT conduit to be bolted directly to the mount.
- Zip tie attachment: A slot is provided for inserting a zip tie and tightening it around the EMT conduit.
The mounts are printed in two pieces and require additional hardware for assembly. See below for more information.
Important Weight Considerations
As HD props have evolved from the 500 – 700 pixel range to well over 1,500 – 2,000 pixels, their overall weight has increased significantly when using conventional bullet pixels. For example, the Rosa Grande from Gilbert Engineering weighs approximately 30 pounds when fully populated with pixels and mounting hardware.
Props weighing more than 15 pounds are not recommended for use with this mounting system. The additional weight can overload the staples holding the vinyl siding to the house, potentially causing the hooks to pull out or the siding itself to fail.
For props with more than 700 pixels, using lightweight pixels or seed pixels is strongly recommended to help keep the overall weight within the mounting system’s limits.
How the ordering process works:
To get started, please contact us through the form below. We’ll discuss your project, answer any questions, and gather information about your siding.
1) Provide measurements and photos. We’ll need some basic measurements and photos of your siding to determine whether it matches one of the common profiles supported by our mounting system.
2) Verify compatibility. If your siding is a good candidate, we’ll create an order for a $10 test plate so you can verify the fit before purchasing the full mounting system.
3) Confirm the fit and proceed with your order. If the test plate fits as expected or requires only minor adjustments, we can proceed with your order. Full custom fitting and redesigns are no longer offered.
For the most accurate fit, please use the siding hooks linked below. Using other brands of hooks may affect the fit of the mounts.
How much do the Vinyl Siding Mounts cost?
The Vinyl Siding Mounts are typically sold in sets of 4, but can also be purchased individually. Pricing is based on the width of your siding and includes the 3D printed parts only. Hardware is available as an optional add-on for $12 per set of 4 or $4 per individual mount. We recommend sourcing the hardware yourself to help keep costs down.

5 – 5.5 Inch Siding: $40 per set, $12 individually
6 – 6.5 Inch Siding: $45 per set, $14 individually
7 – 7.5 Inch Siding: $50 per set, $16 individually

Important Note: Mounting System Limitations
The holding power of these mounts can vary depending on the home’s siding profile, condition, and attachment to the structure. Although the mounts have performed well in strong and gusty winds, no mounting system can be guaranteed to withstand all weather conditions.
Factors such as the type and weight of the props, wind direction and speed, gust intensity, and the condition and installation of the siding can all affect the performance and holding power of the mounts.
Vinyl siding was not designed to support holiday lighting props, and using this mounting system carries inherent risks, including the possibility of the mounts pulling loose, damage to the siding or property, or injury to persons. Use of this mounting system is at your own risk.
